Programs we offer at Wilson County Partnership for Children
Although her family income is modest, Ashley, a Pre-k teacher at a local childcare, assumed that she would never qualify for childcare assistance to help pay for her 3 small children (a 2 ½ year old and 1 year old twins). Getting paid once a month was a struggle for her family and paying childcare was becoming out of the question. But, after hearing a friend discuss Wilson county Partnership for Children’s Subsidy Program, she decided to give it a try.
After submitting her childcare application, Ashley was contacted stating that she was approved. “I was elated when I received the call. I didn’t think I would get anything, but I decided it was worth trying because things were getting really tight,” recalls Ashley.
Once approved, Ashley came into the office for her interview in which the parent’s responsibilities and guidelines are discussed and reviewed. At that time, she was given the opportunity to ask questions and receive her childcare vouchers in which she had the choice of choosing a 3, 4, or 5 star childcare facility. “This program has really helped my family and has ceased my worries of the well-being of my children while I am away at work, “ states Ashley. “In the process, they are learning and developing through high quality experiences that will lay the foundation for later success in life” says Ashley. “This assistance has made things much better now. Paying the monthly parent fee is no comparison to the total amount that I would have to pay for 3 children without assistance.” She adds, “I don’t know what I would do without this program. It has been a lifesaver for my family. I hope it continues for a long time to come.
Nothing at all! NC Pre-K is a free program that serves children for a full school day (6.5-hour day). However, if you need before and after school care for your child, that care would be separate from NC Pre-K, and you would have to provide payment for that service.
In Wilson County, NC Pre-K classrooms can be found in both public-school systems, and in select childcare centers. A list can be found by visiting our website https://wilsonpfc.org/
Although many programs may have a class that they refer to as a “Pre-K” class, only approved sites are able to receive funding to provide the free NC Pre-K program. Approved NC Pre-K sites must follow specific state guidelines in relation to class size, teacher education, and the curriculum they use.
Placements are determined in the late summer and parents are usually notified mid-August. This timeline can vary depending on the number of applications that have to be processed.
You can pick up an application from Wilson County Partnership for Children, you can pick up an application form one of the approved NC Pre-K sites, or you can apply online by visiting https://wilsonpfc.org/. The application must be completed, and you must submit all the required documents that apply to your situation.
Children who turn 4 years old ON or BEFORE August 31st of the school year and who are deemed “at-risk”. The primary risk-factor is income, but children with developmental/educational needs, some children with chronic health conditions, children with limited English proficiency, and children of military families may also be considered for the program.
You can contact an NC Pre-K site directly, or you can call Wilson County Partnership for Children at (252) 206-4235.
If your child is NC Pre-K eligible but does not get picked up for a spot in an NC Pre-K classroom, his or her name will go onto a waiting list. Throughout the school year, if spots become available Wilson County Partnership for Children will pull children from that waiting list.
None of the NC Pre-K sites provide transportation.
NC Pre-K registration usually begins in February, so be on the lookout for this information.

I would like to take the time to thank our Wilson County Partnership, and in particular Mary Artis. They have been instrumental in helping me make the transition from Teacher to Director a successful one.
Some ways they have helped us:
In short, when someone/something is local and familiar to you… when someone calls you by name or asks about your coworkers…when they see that you may have lost a star and asks how they can help you get it back…these are people you want to work with. You know you can trust them. I depend on these people. Thank You Wilson County Partnership!!

Sponsored by Wilson County Partnership for Children
Wilson County Partnership for Children’s mission is to support the development of young children and families in Wilson County, North Carolina. In conjunction with The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), a parenting and family support system, that is designed to help children realize their potential.
Triple P is designed to be with parents on every step of their journey, providing help and guidance to families when they need it. It aims to create supportive family environments, and to prevent, as well as treat, behavioral and emotional problems in children. Triple P fits the needs of every family in Wilson County, whether they are struggling with temper tantrums or sleeping patterns, parents in conflict with their child or with each other, or have children with additional needs.
Wilson County PFC utilizes the Triple P program to draw on social, cognitive, behavioral, and developmental learning theories, as well as providing research into risk factors associated with the development of social and behavioral problems in children. This program equips parents with the skills and confidence they need to be able to manage any family issue.
Triple P doesn’t tell people how to parent. It gives them simple and practical strategies that they can adapt to their own values, beliefs, and needs. Triple P also recognizes that one size doesn’t fit all – it’s a system that offers increasing levels of support to meet the different needs of parents.
